Willowbank Raceway - Street Series wraps up for 2015

Street Series wraps up for 2015

With the end of October also came the end of the 2015 Street Series, with champions now found in the Street Sedan, Street Bike and Powder Puff brackets.

The first category to be decided was the Powder Puff class, with Susanne Fletcher taking out the title on the 21st of October. For the full story on Fletcher’s victory, please click here. For full results from the 21st of October, please click here.

The 56 year old Teacher was one of eight Powder Puff racers in the hunt for the title leading into the final, and put down her victory to a combination of luck, good racing, and the efforts of her step-son Josh Fletcher – who at that time was himself hoping to take out his own Street Series title in the Street Sedan class in the coming weeks.

“For me, Josh is the mastermind behind all of this, I couldn’t do it without him. I just do everything that he tells me and he has never given me bad advice yet – he has an amazing mind for getting it right, all the way down to the split second of what you dial in for. I am pretty impressed with his calls on everything. (He) is very excited – he has worked so hard, and I am so pleased for him that we have got it for him. Hopefully he will do the same again and more easily in a week or so.” said Fletcher after taking the win on the 21st.

Ten days later, he would do just that – taking out an incredible sixth Street Series title and an unprecedented third Street Sedan title in a row, aboard the same car that his step-mother had taken victory in just weeks before.

Already, Fletcher is making plans for title number seven, stating “I think this would be my favourite (title), and to win in the same year as my step-mum, that is the icing on the cake. Now it is on to next year – I will rebuild the car, the guys from Horsepower Engineering will freshen the engine, I will put some Lucas Oil in it, and off we will go to chase down title number seven!”

On the same evening, Denis Ryan took his second Street Series title victory and his first in Street Bike, with this year’s win coming 11 years after he last held the Street Series trophy in 2004.

“This is my second street series title after 2004 and while this year is my first in Street Bike, that one was still on a motorcycle - it is just that back then the bikes were combined with the cars in the Street Series,” explained Ryan, who is a ‘Postie’ for Australia Post.

“There were four of us ‘posties’ in the top eight this year – two in Powder Puff and two in the Street Bikes. My street series bike is a little quicker that is for sure, but the postie bikes still go alright! Well, not really, but they are perfect for the job,” laughed Ryan.
